Wine and Health – A Contradiction?
"Wine is alcohol, and alcohol is harmful!" – This is the absolute stance of alcohol opponents. There is no room for discussion about quantity. Is any amount of alcohol harmful? The reflexive answer is yes. Should alcohol in food, such as tiramisu, be avoided? Absolutely!
Demonizing all types and amounts of alcohol is based on the assumption that alcohol consumption poisons the body and inevitably leads to abuse, addiction, illness, and dependency. However, most people have realized that one glass of (red) wine feels good, a second one too… but after the nth glass, it’s simply too much. Through experience, they learn that enjoyment always requires personal responsibility, balance, and moderation.
When we talk about wine consumption today and in the future, we always mean enjoyment in moderation and with responsibility. Any form of abuse is harmful and must be unconditionally rejected. To prevent misuse, society should approach the topic of wine with an open and balanced perspective.
