Alcohol vs. Anti-Alcohol – A Matter of Belief?

When a topic turns into a question of faith, rational discussion often becomes impossible. Both sides become radicalized, refusing to listen to each other, accepting only the research that supports their own viewpoint.

The Alcohol Opponents: Alcohol is a poison. Even the smallest amount is harmful and should be avoided.

W&G Wine & Health: Red wine contains polyphenols and flavonoids—compounds with scientifically proven health benefits. Moderate wine consumption can reduce the risk of heart attack by up to 50%, strengthen the immune system, and slow cellular aging. This applies to a daily intake of 1/8 to 3/8 liters of red wine. However, alcohol abuse is strictly rejected.

The media—especially public broadcasters like ORF—give a platform only to the anti-alcohol stance, silencing the currently passive majority: winemakers, schools (HBLA), retailers, restaurants, wine taverns, and consumers.

Many people have personal experiences with alcohol and need factual, credible, and well-founded information to develop a healthy relationship with it, rather than being pushed into extremes.

•    The right way to handle alcohol—not an outright ban
•    The positive effects of moderate red wine consumption—not the idea that every sip leads to addiction
•    Moderate red wine consumption as a potential health benefit—not the blanket claim that alcohol is poison

Unfortunately, when prejudice dominates, reason takes a backseat. A missed opportunity for real discussion.
