Welcome to the J-Curve
The J-curve is the best summary of both the positive and negative aspects of alcohol consumption. Up to a quantity of 4 alcoholic drinks for men and 2.5 for women, the risk of mortality decreases significantly compared to abstinent individuals (the gray horizontal line). However, those who drink more—and much more—engage in alcohol abuse and must expect negative consequences for their health. At that point, all the positive effects of moderate alcohol consumption are reversed into negative ones.
Regarding the current claim that “there is no healthy amount of alcohol,” I will address this in one of the upcoming releases. Until then, enjoy your glass of wine—or two—preferably with a meal.
Warm regards,
